Volunteer Opportunities

Helping the Thrift StoreMentor/Companion/Friend (one-on-one time spent with a person served by the ARC)

  • Visits (at times and places mutually agreed upon)
  • Birthday Card, Christmas Card, and/or Gifts for special occasions
  • Take on community outings/activities (i.e. movies, restaurants, etc.)
  • Include the person in your family activities
  • Tutor in areas such as reading, handling money, health care, etc.
  • Open to other ways you can develop a friendship

Special Olympics

  • Help coordinate and plan the ARC’s Special Olympics program
  • Volunteer to help with sports training in a variety of sports (training is usually once a week during the season of any given sport)
  • Coach (Training required by Special Olympics Georgia)
  • Chaperone for weekend Special Olympic Games (Competition Games are held in Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter)

volunteersThrift Store

  • Need men with trucks to pickup donated items
  • Work at the Thrift Store location on Mondays, 9:30 – 2:30 (any hours of your convenience) to sort, price, and display donated items
  • Need men or strong ladies to help move “heavy stuff,” like furniture, around on Mondays
  • Work at the monthly sale (first Friday of every month) to help customers load items into their cars, help with checkout, or miscellaneous tasks as needed.

Camp Volunteer/Chaperone (Monday-Friday residential camp usually held in August)

  • Cabin counselor to approximately 5 adults. Please download the volunteer information sheet (Microsoft Word format) for more information.
  • Donate needed items (i.e. OTC medications and supplies, sodas, snacks)
  • Donate or help locate items that can be used as game prizes (key chains, pens/pencils, tee-shirts, stuffed animals etc.)
  • Register campers on the day we leave (name tags and check-off list)
  • Registered Nurse needed to dispense medications at camp

Recreational Events (Decorate, Serve Food, Name Tags, Clean-up, etc.)

  • Valentine Banquet and Dance
  • Summer Fun Carnival (school-age special needs children)
  • Fall Jamboree Dance (October)
  • Christmas Banquet and Dance

Clerical Support at the ARC office

  • Answer phones
  • Filing
  • Stuff envelopes
  • Miscellaneous
