Please see this page to make a contribution in memory of a loved one. RUTH H. HOLMES (April 29, 2008). Ms. Holmes passed away at 95 after a very productive, interesting life. In 1954, she was one of the organizers of M.A.R.C. (Macon Association for Retarded Citizens) and served as the first president. M.A.R.C. is now known as Advocacy Resource Center (ARC-Macon). Ms. Holmes continued to be a member of ARC-Macon and came to the Annual Award's Banquet each year that she was able. She participated in the 50th Anniversary Celebration, in which all ARC presidents were invited. Her contributions to ARC will forever be appreciated. ROBERT TROY HERNDON (March 6, 2008). Mr. Herndon's wife, Deborah, has worked at the ARC, mostly in the Residential Department, since the mid 1970s and his mother, Sallie, also worked for many years in the ARC's residential program. Through these family connections, Troy knew most of the people served at the ARC and most of the staff. He was often seen at ARC events volunteering. He was a loving father, husband and son. ANITA ROBINSON (February 21, 2008). Ms. Robinson served in many capacities for the ARC since 1988. She served as president and most recently as immediate past president. She was a favorite camp counselor, helped raise money and manpower to rebuild a condemned house for a disabled couple in the community, worked tirelessly to motivate and strengthen the ARC's memberhsip, and she was a strong advocate for ARC staff. GARNELL W. BELL (November 9, 2007). Ms. Bell passed away after an extended illness. She was the ARC's lead team member working with Supported Employment trainees at Y.K.K. She was loved by all that knew her and was an inspiration. ELAM J. WHITBY (October 4, 2007). Mr. Whitby passed away at the age of 79, after a dedicated, hardworking life, which included his church family and weekly (and many times daily) activites with his children Rita, Sara, and Wayne. He made sure they lived a full and happy life. He was not just a spectator at their Special Olympic events and ARC activities but an active volunteer. He and his wife, Margaret, were lifelong members of the ARC and summer camp at Will-a-Way was one of Elam's favorite activites. He seved as a volunteer as long as his health allowed. The ARC greatly appreciates the Whitby family for designating memorial contributions be made to the agency. CHRISTIAN ALEXANDER LANDON (May 16, 1979 - October 12, 2007). Alex was loving cared for by his mother, Betty Braswell Landon-Temple. Each year, Betty and Alex participated in DD Day at the Capitol, where Betty advocated for the best care possible for Alex and for all individuals with developmental disabilities. WILMA WALKER (May 15, 1952 - August 15, 2007). Ms. Wilma enjoyed life and had a beautiful smile. She resided in on of the ARC's apartments the last few months of her life. SCOTT HOLLEY (October 27, 1945 - August 6, 2007). Scott Holley started out with Mrs. Louise Young in the first programs in Bibb County for children with developmental disabilities. He was a vital part of the Boy Scouts, the Bibb County Training Center, ARC parties, Summer Camp, and Special Olympics (especially bowling). His parents, Vernell and Grover Holley were long-time members of the ARC. The family generously requested that memorial donations be made to the ARC in lieu of flowers. MICHAEL RAY DAVIS (August 1, 1961 - February 8, 2007). Michael Davis loved summer camp and started going to Camp Will-a-Way when he was barely a teenager. He and his sister, Janet, loved being at camp together and watched out for each other. When the ARC started going to Camp Ascca in Alabama, Michael especially loved the tubing and "zip-line." Michael will be greatly missed. Playing softball with the Macon/Bibb County Parks and Recreation Department was also a big part of his life. BUDDY TANNER (October 7, 1949 - September 19, 2006). Buddy's mother and father, Josie and Hillman Tanner, both deceased, were two of the original five founding members of the ARC-Macon in 1953. Buddy participated in recreational activities with the ARC and was part of the Adult Enrichment Program since its inception in 1985. He was also an avid participant in Special Olympic activities with the Macon/Bibb County Parks and Recreation Department. JOHN JONES (July 24, 2006): John Paul passed away at the age of 36. He was a beloved member of the ARC's Adult Enrichment Program for approximately 20 years and enjoyed going on trips, going to camp, attending all the dances, and participating in Special Olympics. CARL PARKER ( - May 7, 2006): Mr. Parker is the father of Hugh Parker, a long-time member of the ARC-Macon. VERNA M. RHEINBERGER (February 26, 1921 - May 16, 2006): Ms. Rheinberger is the mother of Judy Parker, a long-time member of the ARC-Macon. The ARC received generous donations in memory of Ms. Rheinberger. NANCY G. CORR (Died peacefully on March 6, 2006): Mrs. Corr was a life-long member of the ARC-Macon and served as a VISTA volunteer for the agency in the early 1990s. Memorial contributions were designated to the ARC at her death. Our sincere sympathy to her family. JERRY ARTHUR GLOVER (Passed away on December 27, 2005 at the age of 58): Jerry attended the MARC workshop (now the Advocacy Resource Center), he was member of boy scout troop 203 and earned his Eagle Scout Award. His mother and father, Emelyn and Reece Glover, were life-long members of the ARC. MARY ALICE EISNER STEFANO (Passed away on December 3, 2005 at the age of 72): Ms. Stefano, a long-standing member of the ARC, served for many years on the board of directors and specifically on the Annual Award's Committee. She was tireless worker and very generous with her time and resources. JOSEPHINE SHAHEEN TANNER (November 16, 1923 - July 28, 2005): Mrs. Tanner was a devoted mother to her son, Buddy, who was a participant in many ARC programs. Mr. and Mrs. Tanner were founding members of the ARC-Macon. DOROTHY HOLSENBECK WALTER (April20, 2004 - November 21, 2004): Mrs. Walter, always known as Dot, was a life-long member of the ARC and her son, Howard participates in many ARC programs. CHARLES WILLIAM (BILLY) HEARD (Passed away on February 18, 2004 at the age of 79): Mr. Heard and his wife, Helen were founding members of the ARC-Macon and their daughter, Kathy, was a participate in many ARC programs. DONNA L. DAVIS (Passed away on October 30, 2003 at the age of 45): Ms. Davis was a beloved resident at the ARC and her mother and father were devoted to her and were members of the ARC. PAULINE HOWARD REEVES (Passed away on June 23, 2003 at the age of 86): Ms. Reeves son, Terry, participated in many ARC recreational programs including summer camp. Her daughter, Kay Powell, served many years on the ARC's board of directors. DOUGLAS CRAWFORD YOPP (Passed away March 19, 2003 at the age of 50): Mr. Yopp participated in the ARC's Adult Enrichment Program for two years. Donations were designated by the family to ARC-Macon. HILLMAN B. TANNER, JR (April 15, 1927 - August 25, 2002): Mr. Tanner and his loving wife, Josie, were founding members and supporters of the ARC. Their son, Buddy, participated in the ARC's Adult Enrichment Program. JUDY S. HALL (October 2, 1949 - July 9, 2002 at the age of 52): Judy participated in all ARC activities and her mother, Frances Stokes, was a life-long member of the ARC. Judy enjoyed special olympics and making craft projects, which won many ribbons at the Georgia State Fair. MIKE L. LUCAS (Passed away February 12, 2002 at the age of 50): Mr. Lucas loved the church of the Exceptional and living at Agape Village. His father, Mack Lucas, served on the ARC board of directors in the late 1980s. CLAUDE A. (DOLPH) WINN, JR. (Passed away on January 15, 2002 at the age of 76): Mr. Winn's son, Kenneth, is an ARC resident and participates in many ARC activities as well as Georgia Special Olympics. Mr. Winn served for many years on the ARC board of directors and served two terms as President of ARC-Georgia. He was an early proponent of mainstreaming and upon his death the Macon Telegraph dedicated an article telling of his advocacy activities. BILLY HOWELL WALTER (Passed away on November 20, 2001): Mr. Walter, along with his wife Dottie, were strong ARC supporters and founding members of the ARC. Their son, Howard, participates in many ARC activities including camp and the Adult Enrichment Program. KRISTIN MARIE LAREAU (Passed away on September 8, 2001 at the age of 19). Kristin's mom and dad were members of the ARC and Mr. Lareau served a term on the Board of Directors. The family donated Kristin's electric wheelchair to the ARC upon her death. KATHERINE HEARD (Passed away on January 7, 2001 at the age of 53): Ms. Heard was an ARC resident and participated in all activities as long as she was physically able. Her parents, Helen and Billy Heard, were founding members of ARC-Macon. DAVID HORWITZ, JR. (Passed away February 15, 2002 at the age of 39): The Horwitz family were long-time members of the ARC and his mother a dedicated volunteer for the Adult Enrichment Program. TERRY ANDREW REEVES (Passed away on February 19, 1998): Terry participated in all ARC activities and especially loved summer camp. His sister, Kay Powell, served on the ARC board of directors and was very instrumental in bringing Terry's brother-in-law, performer Ronnie Milsap, to Macon for a benefit concert for the ARC.
